Sandi Piek, RYT 200

Thank you for stopping by! If you've been curious about yoga, and have wondered if it's for you, I'd love the opportunity to help you have a great experience.

I initially tried yoga as a skeptic, certain that it would be impossible for my body. Instead, yoga helped me discover that the body I’d always struggled with is actually quite amazing, and I found strength I didn’t know I had. My desire as a teacher is to provide a safe space, like the one I was given, for my students to explore the many benefits of yoga.

Yoga Basics

In this class, I lead students through a series of postures, coordinated with breath, which can improve strength, balance, and flexibility. With minimal flow ("flowing" from one posture to the next) and ample instruction, this class is accessible to beginners as well as experienced practitioners who would like the opportunity to slow down a bit.

Tuesdays, 6:00-7:15 PM
Cedar Room
$48 per six-week series or $10 drop-in*

Fall Schedule:

IMPORTANT
Bring a mat and blanket for all classes

Blocks, straps, and chairs are available for use.
You are also welcome to bring any other props.

  • Mats: If you're choosing a new mat, look for one that is a little bit sticky to help keep you from sliding. Thicker mats can feel good on your knees, but can be a challenge for balance.
  • Blankets: Your blanket should be thick enough to fold and sit on, and made from a material that won't slide on itself. A blanket can also provide extra padding for your knees. While Mexican blankets are often used for yoga, army blankets, not-so-holey afghans, and extra large beach towels are great too.

Yoga for Beginners

This 6-class series is an introduction to the fundamentals of yoga postures and breathing exercises. We'll focusing on a small number of postures each week, slowly exploring those that show up in many yoga classes. This pace allows time to make sure that every student has found a version of each posture that works for their body. This series is perfect if you're curious about yoga, if you're coming back to yoga after some time away, or if you have a physical challenge and wonder if they you can practice yoga. (The answer is "Yes!) Participants can expect to gain a knowledge of basic yoga postures, increase body awareness, and lay the foundation for an ongoing yoga practice.

Chair Yoga

Chair yoga is a gentle form of yoga that is practiced sitting in a chair or while standing and using a chair for support. This allows everyone to experience the many benefits of yoga without having to get up or down from the floor. This class is accessible to anyone, regardless of age or physical limitations. Yoga is great for decreasing stress, building strength, and increasing your range of motion. A yoga mat is still necessary for chair yoga.
